بود درعهد عمر مردی قوی
چون ادا کردی نماز معنوی

خلق را در پیش خود بنشاندی
شعر درمحراب خوش میخواندی

خواندن اشعار او بعد از نماز
منکران گفتند با فاروق باز

گفت پیش او بریدم این زمان
پیش او بردندش آخر مردمان

چون عمر را دید مرد از جای جست
دست او بگرفت و در پیشش نشست

گفت فاروقش که تو بعد از نماز
شعر خوانی شعرهای دلنواز

گفت چیزی می درآید غیبیم
همچنان میخوانم از بی عیبیم

گفت برخوان مرد شعر آغاز کرد
مرغ دل فاروق را پرواز کرد

شعر او در ذم نفس خویش بود
حکمت باریک و دور اندیش بود

سخت دلخوش شد ز شعر او عمر
حفظ کرد و باز میگفت آنقدر

گفت این شعرم که برخواندی تمام
هم عمر این شعر میگوید مدام

شعر چون اینست تا بتوانیش
جهد باید کرد تا میخوانیش

شعر نیک و بد تو از خود میکنی
نیک اگر بد میکنی بد میکنی

English translation

There was a strong man in the era of Umar When he performed his spiritual prayer He would seat the people in front of him And beautifully recite poetry in the mihrab His recitation of poetry after the prayer The deniers reported back to Farooq He said, 'Bring him to me at this time' The people finally brought him before him When the man saw Umar, he leaped from his place Took his hand and sat before him Farooq said to him, 'Do you, after the prayer, Recite poetry, heart-pleasing poems?' He said, 'Something unseen comes to me, I just recite it out of my innocence.' He said, 'Recite.' The man began his poetry, The bird of Farooq's heart took flight. His poetry was in condemnation of his own ego, It was subtle and far-sighted wisdom. Umar was greatly pleased by his poetry, He memorized it and repeated it much. He said, 'This poem of yours that you recited fully, Umar too recites this poem constantly.' Since poetry is like this, as much as you can, You must strive to recite it. You make your good and bad poetry from yourself, Even the good, if you make it bad, you do bad.
