داشت آن سلطان که محمودست نام
سرکش و بی باک و خونی یک غلام

عاقبت راهی زد آن بیروی و راه
حالیش گردن زدن فرمود شاه

لیک اول گفت شاه حق شناس
تا از آن مجلس رود بیرون ایاس

گفت از ما لطف دیدست او مدام
کی تواند دید قهرم این غلام

هرکه او در لطف ما پرورده شد
از خیال قهر ما آزرده شد

ای عجب چون این سخن بشنید ایاس
گفت فرخ آنکه شاه حق شناس

گردنش یکبار زد یکبار رست
تا قیامت از غم و تیمار رست

کار من بنگر که روزی چندبار
میشوم از تیغ هیبت کشته زار

با ادب در پیش سلطان تن زدن
سخت تر باشد ز صد گردن زدن

روز و شب در قهر میسوزد مدام
وانگهم پروردهٔ لطفست نام

لطف او در حق هرک افزون بود
بی شک آنکس غرقه تر در خون بود

English translation

That sultan whose name is Mahmud had A rebellious, fearless, and bloodthirsty slave. Eventually, that wayward one committed a robbery; The king immediately ordered him to be beheaded. But first, the truth-recognizing king said That Ayaz should leave that assembly. He said, 'He has always seen grace from us; How can this slave endure seeing my wrath? Whoever was raised in our grace, Would be hurt by the mere thought of our wrath.' Oh wonder! When Ayaz heard these words, He said, 'Fortunate is he whom the truth-recognizing king Beheads once, he is freed once and for all; Until resurrection, he is freed from sorrow and care. Look at my state, for several times a day I am miserably killed by the sword of awe. To remain silent and respectful in front of the sultan Is harder than a hundred beheadings. Day and night, one constantly burns in wrath, And yet my name is "raised by grace". His grace towards anyone who receives more of it, Undoubtedly, that person is more drowned in blood.'
