مصطفی کو بود دل جان را ز قدر
منبری بنهاد حسان را ز قدر

بر سر منبر فرستادش پگاه
تا ادا میکرد شعر آنجایگاه

گه ثنا گفتیش گه آراستی
گاه از وی قطعهٔ درخواستی

بنگرید ای منکران بیوفا
تا کرا بنهاد منبر مصطفی

گفت حسان را ز احسان و کرم
هست جبریل امین با تو بهم

خواجهٔ دنیا و دین شمع کرام
خواند ایشان را امیران کلام

شعر را جاوید چون نبود مزید
اصدق قول عرب قول لبید

مصطفی گفته ست شعر نامدار
چون سخنهای دگر دارد شمار

زشت او زشت و نکوی اونکوست
زشت دشمن دار نیکو دار دوست

از ابوبکر وعمر هم شعر خواست
اشعر از هر دو علی مرتضا است

نظم حسانی و اشعار حسن
هست منقول از حسین و از حسن

شافعی را شعر هم بسیار هست
وز امامان دگر اشعار هست

شعر اگر حکمت بود طاعت بود
قیمتش هر روز و هر ساعت بود

شعر بر حکمت پناهی یافتست
کو به یؤتی الحکمه راهی یافتست

شعر مدح و هزل گفتن هیچ نیست
شعر حکمت به که در وی پیچ نیست

English translation

Mustafa, who in worth was the heart of the soul, Set up a pulpit for Hassan out of respect. He sent him atop the pulpit early in the day, So that he might recite poetry in that place. Sometimes he praised him, sometimes he embellished, Sometimes he requested a piece of verse from him. Look, O faithless deniers, For whom Mustafa set up a pulpit! Out of kindness and generosity, he told Hassan: "The trustworthy Gabriel is together with you." The master of the world and religion, the candle of the noble, Called them the commanders of speech. Since poetry eternally has no addition, "The truest word of the Arabs is the word of Labid." Mustafa has spoken renowned poetry, For it is accounted for like other speech. Its ugly is ugly and its good is good, Hold the ugly as an enemy, hold the good as a friend. From Abu Bakr and Umar, he also requested poetry, More poetic than both is Ali al-Murtada. The verses of Hassan and the poems of Hasan, Are transmitted from Husayn and from Hasan. Shafi'i, too, has an abundance of poetry, And there are poems from the other Imams. If poetry is wisdom, it is an act of devotion, Its value remains every day and every hour. Poetry has found a refuge in wisdom, For it has found a path to "He grants wisdom." Poetry of mere praise and jest is nothing, Poetry of wisdom is better, in which there is no twisting.
