Concept

Americans with Disabilities Act and Service Animals: Public Accommodation Guidelines

  • Allergies and fears of dogs are not valid reasons to remove a service animal and both parties should be accommodated accordingly
  • Service dogs can't be removed unless they are out of control and the owner can't control it, or they aren't housebroken. Organization members should give the ESA owner the opportunity to be in the vicinity without the ESA.
  • Payments for pets should be waived for owners with service animals
  • Service animals should be allowed in places where regular pets aren't due to food being present in the room (i.e. a restaurant)
  • People with service animals should not be treated differently or isolated
  • Hotels can charge for damages done by service animals
  • Staff are not required to care for someone's service animal.
