Amity and Friendliness (Tawadud wa Ta'aluf)

The Thirty-Third Knot of Jami's Subhat al-Abrar teaches that spiritual maturity is reached not by fleeing people but by mingling with God's creation through compassion and love. Jami draws on the letter alef, which stands apart yet joins with what precedes it, and on the maxim that the true believer is alif — one who forms bonds and is easy to befriend (چو الف از همه کس فرد مشو).

Companionship is presented as a source of growth: a friend gains perfection, dignity, and glory from a friend (یار از یار کند کسب کمال). Solitude is fitting only toward strangers, never toward the sincere companion, so the seeker must not abandon the fellowship of true friends (دامن صحبت یاران مگذار).
