Analyzing an Economic System

An economic system is described as having three key, defining institutions. Consider the following scenario: In a 15th-century society, individual artisans like blacksmiths and weavers own their own tools and workshops. They sell the goods they produce directly to consumers in a bustling town square. Most production is done by the artisans themselves or with the help of their family members; there is no widespread practice of hiring workers for a wage. Based on the three-institution definition of a capitalist economic system, is the society described a capitalist system? Explain your reasoning by identifying which of the key institutions are present and which, if any, are absent.
