Short Answer

Analyzing an Economic System's Classification

Consider an economic system with the following characteristics: 1) Individuals and families have legally protected ownership of their tools, land, and the goods they create. 2) A central marketplace exists where these individuals can freely trade their goods with one another for mutual benefit. 3) However, the vast majority of production is carried out by self-employed artisans or within family units; large-scale enterprises that hire workers for wages are almost non-existent. Based on the institutional requirements for an economic system, explain why this system would not be classified as capitalist.
