Short Answer

Analyzing Bargaining Dynamics in Household Labor

A couple, both working full-time, is deciding how to divide unpaid household chores. One partner earns a much higher salary and successfully argues that the other partner, who earns less, should be responsible for the majority of the housework. The lower-earning partner disagrees with this arrangement but ultimately concedes. Beyond a simple calculation of whose time is more 'valuable' in the paid labor market, identify and briefly explain the primary factor influencing this household's division of labor.
