Analyzing Responder Behavior in Different Social Contexts

In a one-shot economic interaction, a 'Proposer' is given $100 and must offer a portion to a 'Responder'. If the Responder accepts, the money is split as proposed. If the Responder rejects, both players receive nothing. This interaction is conducted in two distinct, isolated communities:

  • Community A: A small, tight-knit village where members frequently collaborate on communal projects and rely on mutual support. Social reputation is highly valued.
  • Community B: A large, anonymous urban center where most interactions are with strangers and are purely transactional.

The results show that in Community A, nearly all offers below $40 are rejected by Responders. In Community B, most offers above $10 are accepted.
