Approximate Equality of a Bank's Total Deposits and Total Lending

For a typical bank, the total value of its liabilities is very close to the total value of its assets. Because deposits are a bank's primary liability and loans are its primary asset, it follows that the total amount of deposits is approximately equal to the total amount of lending.
