Aristotle's Contribution to Spontaneous Generation

The ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle (384{}384322{}322 BC) was an early proponent of the theory of spontaneous generation. He suggested that life could emerge from nonliving materials if they contained pneuma, meaning 'spirit' or 'breath'. He used the sudden appearance of fish in new puddles of water as evidence for this idea.
