Concept

Asians vs. White Americans & Mental Health Stigma (The Study)

In a study from the article “Inclusiveness of the Concept of Mental Disorder and Differences in Help-Seeking Between Asian and White Americans,” the ethnic and racial differences in mental disorder conceptions are studied and how stigma impacts help-seeking behaviors. It compares Asian American and White American participants to determine if a narrower concept of mental disorders and higher stigma contribute to lower help-seeking rates among Asian Americans. Findings reveal that Asian Americans hold more restrictive views of mental disorders and experience higher levels of stigma compared to White Americans.
