Assumption of Using Expected Shirking Duration in Payoff Calculation

In the labour discipline model, a simplifying assumption is made that an employee calculates their potential payoff from shirking based on the 'expected' or average length of time (s) they can shirk before being caught. This approach is used because while being caught is a probabilistic event, the average duration provides the best available estimate for the employee's decision-making process.
