Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder: Consequences
While Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) is similar to anorexia nervosa in involving significant food restriction, individuals with ARFID do not intend to lose weight, nor are they anxious about their body size or shape. Thus, any dramatic weight loss is unintentional. Other consequences of ARFID include:
- Malnutrition
- Loss of appetite
- Stomach cramping
- Lanugo
- Heart failure resulting from malnutrition
- Loss of menstrual cycle
- Abnormal laboratory results
