Blaming the Poor as an Example of the Fundamental Attribution Error

A negative outcome of the just-world hypothesis is the tendency to blame impoverished individuals for their circumstances. This often manifests as dispositional explanations, such as labeling the poor as 'lazy' or unwilling to work. These explanations exemplify the fundamental attribution error because they overemphasize personal traits while ignoring significant situational factors like high unemployment rates, economic recessions, inadequate educational opportunities, and the cyclical nature of poverty.
