Blockade-Runners During the American Civil War

During the Union's naval blockade of the Confederacy, specialized ships known as 'blockade-runners' attempted to bypass the patrols to maintain trade. These vessels, which often operated under the cover of darkness, faced significant risks. Despite some successes, the Union's naval efforts were largely effective, as evidenced by the capture or destruction of approximately 1,500 blockade-running ships.
