Case Study: Navajo/Diné Nation
The Navajo Nation stretches across northeastern Arizona, southeastern Utah, and northwestern New Mexico. Due to historical systemic inequalities and hostile relations with the U.S. federal government, Navajo communities faced a disproportionately severe impact during the COVID-19 pandemic. Limited health services, broken infrastructure, and high rates of immunocompromising diseases increased the vulnerability of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations to the outbreak.
