Chapter Four of 'Autobiography in Five Short Chapters'

The fourth chapter of Portia Nelson's poem represents the successful breaking of a destructive pattern. The narrator, now fully aware of the obstacle, consciously chooses to avoid it ('I walk around it'). This stage signifies the achievement of behavioral change, where the individual has learned from past experiences and can navigate the situation without falling into the same trap.
