Chapter Two of 'Autobiography in Five Short Chapters'

The second chapter of Portia Nelson's poem illustrates the stage of a destructive pattern where awareness begins to emerge but is met with denial. The narrator walks down the same street and, despite seeing the hole, pretends it isn't there and falls in again. This represents an individual who recognizes a recurring problem but fails to change their behavior, leading to the same negative outcome while still not accepting responsibility.
