Clinical Case of a Patient with a Dog Bite and Neurological Symptoms

In a patient demonstrating symptoms after a dog bite, diagnosis of rabies involves multiple antemortem tests, including immunofluorescent staining on a skin biopsy from the neck hairline, blood serum tests for antibodies, and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) of saliva for viral RNA. Positive detection of rabies virus antigen in blood tests prompts immediate post-exposure prophylactic treatment consisting of human rabies immunoglobulin and rabies vaccine injections.
