Cognitive Biases in Depression

Within Beck's cognitive theory, cognitive biases are systematic errors in thinking that perpetuate a depressive mindset. These biases cause individuals to process information in a skewed way, leading them to focus selectively on negative details, interpret situations pessimistically, and have difficulty recalling positive memories. These mental habits maintain the dysfunctional thought patterns prompted by depressive schemas.
