Common Service Van Material Categories

A service electrician can keep van stock organized by grouping items by function:

  • Wire and cable: Typical small-gauge conductors used on service calls, such as 14 AWG, 12 AWG, and 10 AWG in standard colors.
  • Wiring devices: End-use equipment that the customer operates, including receptacles, switches, GFCI devices, AFCI devices, and cover plates.
  • Fittings and enclosures: Parts that hold, protect, or join conductors and devices, such as junction boxes, device boxes, blank covers, cable connectors, wire connectors, and electrical tape.
  • Raceway pieces: Short sections of conduit systems and the matching parts used to join them, such as EMT, PVC, and their fittings.
  • Overcurrent devices: Breakers that match the panel families the company works with most often.
  • Basic lighting: Common replacement lighting parts such as lamp holders and LED bulbs.

This type of grouping helps technicians find the right material quickly and makes restocking simpler after a job.
