Comparison of Secrecy and Trust in Sanai's Allegories of the Talebearer and the Confidant

In Sanai's Hadiqat al-Haqiqah, the allegories in Section 21 and Section 52 present complementary perspectives on the ethics of secrecy (hifz-e sirr). While Section 21 (the Fool and the Talebearer) illustrates the negative consequences of indiscretion and trusting untrustworthy companions, Section 52 (the Confidant and the Dead Secret) defines the ideal confidant whose heart acts as a grave for secrets. Together, these two parables establish a complete moral and spiritual instruction on the necessity of guarding mysteries from the spiritually immature while entrusting them only to the wise.
