Counterproductive Nature of Safety Behaviors in Social Anxiety Disorder
Although individuals with social anxiety disorder use safety behaviors to prevent potential embarrassment or criticism, these actions are ultimately counterproductive. They worsen the condition by preventing the person from learning that their fears are unfounded, thereby failing to disconfirm their negative beliefs.
