Critique of a Production Model Assumption

A common production model for a specific good describes output as a function of labor, machinery, and energy, but intentionally omits the primary raw material. The justification is that the quantity of the raw material required is automatically determined by the target output level. Describe a specific, plausible business environment or market condition where this simplifying assumption would be misleading, and explain why it would be more accurate to include the raw material as an independent input in the model.
