Critiquing Experimental Economic Research

An economic study compared behavior in a take-it-or-leave-it bargaining game between two groups: members of a small-scale, cooperative farming community and university students from a large, industrialized nation. The study found that the farmers were far more likely to reject low offers, even though it meant receiving no money. The researchers concluded that norms of fairness are culturally determined and that people in cooperative societies are more willing to punish behavior that violates these norms.

Critically evaluate this conclusion. What is one major strength of this experimental design in supporting the conclusion, and what is one significant potential limitation or alternative explanation for the observed differences in behavior?
