Cronyism in Developmental States

Cronyism is a key risk in developmental states, where the close relationship between the government and the private sector can lead to favoritism. In this system, the state may allocate subsidies, loans, and contracts to politically connected business owners (cronies) rather than to the most efficient or innovative firms. This practice distorts competition and can lead to widespread corruption and economic inefficiency.
