Current Ratio for Evaluating Contractor Liquidity

To calculate the current ratio, divide current assets by current liabilities. Banks and surety providers use this measure to judge whether a contractor can cover near-term obligations with near-term resources. In construction, a common benchmark is about 1.6. A ratio below 1.0 means current liabilities exceed current assets, which signals working-capital stress and can make bonding harder and financing more expensive. Reviewing the ratio each quarter, together with the reserve balance, gives an outside-facing view of liquidity that complements an internal cash target.
