Cash-Reserve Rules for an Electrical Contractor

A reserve system works best when it is automatic and consistent. Each time a customer payment is collected, move a fixed percentage into a separate reserve account before that cash is treated as available for day-to-day use. Keep a minimum balance in the operating account and avoid spending below that floor for routine expenses. A line of credit can help cover short-term gaps, but it should be treated only as backup support. It does not replace real cash reserves, because lenders and surety reviewers judge the business by its actual balance sheet rather than by unused borrowing capacity.
