Curricular Plan for Studying How Markets Work

The operational principles of markets are examined in detail within Units 7, 8, and 10 of the curriculum. Unit 7 specifically explains how firms that produce differentiated goods choose their price and quantity. The unit that explores competitive equilibrium, where all participants are price-takers, builds directly on the foundational concepts and examples presented in Unit 7. Therefore, it is essential to complete Unit 7 before proceeding to the unit on competitive equilibrium.
