Daqiqi was among the earlier Persian poets and was the first to begin versifying the Shahnameh, composing roughly twenty thousand couplets before his death. Ferdowsi later took up the unfinished work, incorporated Daqiqi's verses into his own epic, and brought the Shahnameh to completion. This concept captures Daqiqi's historical role as the initiator of the national epic and clarifies the relationship between his surviving fragment and Ferdowsi's finished poem.
