Section 3 - Daqiqi

Original content

English translation

Daqiqi - may God the Exalted have mercy on him - is among the poets of the earlier age. He began the Shahnameh and composed approximately twenty thousand verses, and Ferdowsi brought it to completion. Among his sayings are these two couplets: I chose a beloved of fairy lineage from among all people, So that today she has become before my eyes like a fairy (peri). The army departed and that army-breaking idol departed; May there never be a heart that gives itself to an army. And this other fragment (qit'a): I stayed here long and became debased; The honored one, from lingering perpetually, grows debased. Just as water, when it lingers long in a pool, Takes on foulness from too much rest.
