مقربان سلاطین چون گروهی اند که به کوه بلند بالا می روند اما عاقبت به زلازل قهر و نوازل دهر از آن کوه به زیر خواهند افتاد، شک نیست که افتادن بلندتران سخت تر خواهد بود به زیر آمدن فروتران سهل تر.
بود ایوان قرب شاه والا

به آن ایوان مرو بسیار بالا
که ترسم چون ازان ایوان درافتی

ز هر افتاده ای محکمتر افتی.

English translation

The intimates of kings are like a group who climb up a high mountain, but in the end, through the earthquakes of wrath and the calamities of fortune, they will fall down from that mountain. There is no doubt that the fall of those who stand higher will be harder, while the descent of those who are lower is easier.

The palace of nearness to the exalted king is lofty; Do not climb too high upon that palace, For I fear that when you fall down from that palace, You will fall more grievously than any other fallen one.
