Section 30

Original content

English translation

Shaykh Abu al-Abbas Qassab - may his secret be sanctified - saw a dervish sewing his garment; every seam that did not come out straight he would undo and sew again. The Shaykh said: 'That is your idol.'

The Sufi whose trade is the patching of the khirqa — if he plies the stitch of poverty, it is fine work; but if the stirring of his ego moves his hand, every stitch and thread of his is an idol and a zunnar (infidel's belt).
