Section 11

Original content

English translation

Ma'ruf al-Karkhi - may God sanctify his soul - has said that the Sufi here is a guest, and for a guest to make demands upon the host is an offense; a guest who is well-mannered is one who waits, not one who demands. I am your guest, standing in the ranks of the masters of devotion, seated, content with whatever may come from you. Having fixed the eye of hope upon the table of your generosity, I await your bounty; I am not one who demands.
