Deciding Between a Panel Swap and a Full Service Upgrade

Electrical problems do not all call for the same remedy. Some situations are solved by replacing the panel itself, while others require a complete service upgrade because the service size, main disconnect, or overall capacity is the real limitation. A panel-only replacement fits cases where the existing service can already support the home, but the panel is full, damaged, outdated, or part of a recalled product line. A full upgrade is the right response when the service is undersized, unsafe, or unable to handle the expected load. Choosing the larger job when it is unnecessary increases cost; choosing the smaller job when capacity is lacking leaves the hazard in place.
