Definition of Aggregate Demand

Aggregate demand (AD) is the total planned expenditure on the goods and services produced within an economy. It represents the sum of demand from all economic agents: consumption by households (C), investment by firms (I), spending by the government (G), and net exports to other countries (Exports, X, minus Imports, M).
