Degeneration of Midbrain Dopamine Structures in Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson's disease is associated with the degeneration of the substantia nigra and the ventral tegmental area (VTA). The loss of dopamine-producing cells in these two midbrain structures is a key factor in the symptoms of the disease.
