This habit refers to reading of a material without any plan or interest. It is also known as “glancing through.” This is the type of reading that you may do in a bookstore or library when you try to choose something that is of interest to you before you buy it. Although this may bring positive results for picking something of interest it does not when performed by students. Teachers should watch out for this type of negative studying as it can lead to failure in examinations, learning frustrations, loss of self concept, and school drop out.


Browsing

In this context when the reader is attempting to read something their mind wanders away and ends up looking at the print without actually understanding anything or grasping the material. This type of study prediets deceit of oneself. If a students mind does end up wandering while they are reading it is advised to change to recreational reading. 


Brown Study

This kind of study habit is when the reader strays away from actual reading and instead pretends. This may lead to loss of interest in the acquisition of knowledge if this habit is not curbed in students. Reading textual materials by this method takes the form of Browsing or Brown study.

Effective Study Habits

To start a hobby is an activity that someone does because they get satisfaction or joy from doing it. After formal education some people like reading as their hobby. Its main purpose is to widen the readers horizon in many different areas that they find interesting. The act of reading as a hobby can make one be versatile in many different areas of knowledge. This type of reading is a positive one to learning as it improves one’s mental reasoning and satisfies their interests and aspirations

Hobbial

Reading for recreation or enjoyment is very common among the educational elite. When they come back from a long day of solving problems relating to the jobs they do, they normally desire a change by reading books, magazines, newspapers and other written materials that are of different interest to them. Students should also be encouraged to read other materials that they desire instead of textbooks or school related stuff all the time. Students who read magazines in their free time learn to relax and cool their brain to avoid mental fatigue. This type of studying allows for positive results as it keeps the students interests, helps them obtain more knowledge, and makes for a more well rounded and disciplined life in school.


Recreational

This type of study/reading habit is the most important one as it is the most optimal at consuming and storing knowledge. Researchers have come up with several different methods that yield the desired outcome in a learning situation. These techniques include the SQ3R technique and the Rosemary technique.
