Rift Valley Fever

A viral disease most often spread to humans from domesticated animals in sub-Saharan Africa. Rift Valley Fever is more likely to cause severe illness in the animals than in the humans the virus is spread to.

Diagnosing Rift Valley Fever

Intereferon Beta production is inhibited resulting in cell death. The Aedes and Culex species of mosquitoes are the vectors that transmit the arbovirus to susceptible populations.

Clinical manifestations of Rift Valley Fever in pregnant women include fever, joint pain, rash, hepatic dysfunction, meningitis and hemorrhage.
