Discussion: BMI Usage and Underserved Communities

How do you think relying on Body Mass Index (BMI) as a health measure can disadvantage historically underserved communities? Consider that BMI was based on the physical attributes of white, European male populations, could this lead to mischaracterizations in other racial or ethnic groups, and possibly labeling them as "obese" unfairly? How might these mischaracterizations and labels impact these communities' experiences with U.S. healthcare, including raised medical costs and access to necessary healthcare services?
