In Section 138 of Jami's Haft Awrang, a key Sufi distinction is established between the essential rights of the body (huquq) and the self-indulgent pleasures of the carnal self (huzuz).

• Essential Rights (Huquq): These represent the basic necessities of life required for bodily survival and physical maintenance (such as simple sustenance). Jami emphasizes that completely abandoning these is unrealistic and impossible, as physical existence depends on them.
• Sensual Desires (Huzuz): These are the superfluous, excessive desires and luxuries that go beyond survival. Seeking these appetites rather than limiting oneself to basic rights leads the seeker (salik) to behave animalistically.

Ultimately, Jami warns that pursuing carnal pleasures closes the gate of divine proximity (qurb) and banishes the seeker from the spiritual presence of the Beloved.
