Studies show that since the worldwide lockdown started in Mid-March 2020, countries have experienced an increase in cases of domestic violence reported, but also a decrease in the average amount of calls received seeking help. As COVID-19 brings forth economic issues, the lack of access to basic services, and self-isolation with spouses, it consequently increases the amount of triggers for domestic violence related to stress and hinders the ability for most women to seek help.

Types of Domestic Violence

Cases of domestic violence have increased by 8.1% from the beginning of the stay at  home orders in the United States until now. Considering the lockdown has trapped many domestic violence with their abusers, it was predicted that the amount of domestic violence would increase in social isolation. This along with the increase in unemployment, financial insecurity,  and stress on the male population has driven a majority of domestic violence cases prevalent during the lockdown.
