Economic Performance of the Soviet Union under Central Planning (1928-1990)

In 1928, the Soviet Union's GDP per capita was higher than that of Brazil and South Korea, though only one-third of Argentina's. Under a system of communist central planning, the Soviet economy experienced consistent growth for nearly five decades, eventually surpassing the economic output per person of both Brazil and Argentina before the end of Communist Party rule in 1990.
