Concept
Effacement of Forms and the Spiritual Guidance of Baha al-Din Naqshband in Jami's Haft Awrang
Jami builds this praise around a sustained wordplay on نقش, meaning form, image, or impression, and نقشبند, the name of Baha al-Din Naqshband. Sensible forms are portrayed as veils that bind the heart to multiplicity, while the unmarked heart turns toward the formless divine reality. Liberation from these veils requires the aid of a spiritual master. Naqshband is therefore praised not merely as a saintly figure but as the guide who helps disciples erase attachment to every form other than God.
