Ellie Murray tweets about how to communicate with other scientists from other disciplines to collaborate

"This pandemic has scientists & scholars from a multitude of fields all working towards a common goal, which is good!

But it means when we write our research findings, we can no longer assume shared context or jargon among our readers.

A thread of musings 1/6

There’s been a fair amount of discussion of the dangers of pre-prints being misinterpreted by the public or journalists.

But, we don’t talk about a potentially more dangerous issue: scientists & scholars in other disciplines getting the wrong message b/c they lack key context

This is a big problem for a lot of reasons. First, many of the misconceptions among the public & journalists are being reinforced by scientists or scholars who, lacking key expertise, fail to understand the significance (or lack thereof) of a research finding.

Second, since combating the pandemic is our shared goal, any failure to communicate between scientists & scholars creates a barrier to achieving that goal, and thus has a cost in human lives lost."
