Ethical Concerns Regarding the Medicalization of Normal Life with PCEs
The widespread use of PCEs risks medicalizing normal variations in human cognition and everyday challenges. By framing typical struggles as problems requiring pharmaceutical “fixes,” society may blur the line between treating genuine medical conditions and enhancing ordinary performance. This shift can pathologize natural fluctuations in mental function and promote the idea that cognitive limits are unacceptable, fostering unrealistic expectations for constant productivity and mental sharpness.
