Evaluating a Prediction about a Wage Increase

An individual, Alex, currently works 40 hours per week at a wage of $20 per hour, spending all earnings on consumption goods. Alex is offered a raise to $25 per hour. A friend makes the following claim: 'This is simple. You'll keep working 40 hours, your income will go up by 25%, and so your consumption will also increase by exactly 25%.'

Critically evaluate the friend's claim. In your answer, explain why the friend's prediction might be incorrect and describe at least two other plausible outcomes for Alex's work and consumption choices.
