Evaluating an 18th-Century Economic Argument

A prominent 18th-century political figure makes the following claim: 'The true engine of our industrial growth is our robust domestic market. The demand from our own citizens is sufficient to fuel innovation and expansion. Therefore, the loss of our overseas colonial markets, while unfortunate, would not fundamentally halt our nation's industrial progress.' Based on your understanding of the economic drivers of this period, critically evaluate the soundness of this claim.
