Evaluating Bargaining Power Under Different Negotiation Rules

Consider two different one-shot negotiation scenarios for splitting $100.

  • Scenario A: One person (the Proposer) offers a split. The other person (the Responder) can accept, and the money is divided as proposed, or reject, in which case both receive $0.
  • Scenario B: The setup is the same, except if the Responder rejects the offer, the Proposer receives $0, but the Responder receives a guaranteed payment of $10.

Evaluate which scenario gives the Responder more bargaining power. Justify your reasoning by analyzing how the change in the rejection payoff influences the strategic decisions of both the Proposer and the Responder.
